FAQ
Is my date available?
This is the first question you should ask your baker! Months like April, May and October fill up fast. We encourage you to reach out to check your date as soon as the venue is booked.
How far in advance do you make the cake?
All of our delicious, from scratch recipes are typically baked cakes two to three days before your event to ensure ample time for decorating.
How far in advance should I order my cake?
We prefer at least two week’s notice, but if that’s not possible, we will do our best to make it happen! Wedding cakes need more than 2 weeks – contact me as soon as you have your date saved.
What type of ingredients do you use in your recipes? Are your recipes from scratch?
All of our products are made with quality ingredients like real butter, nuts, spices and fresh fruit.
Do you offer nut or gluten-free products?
Not every recipe can be created gluten free, but we do offer nut and gluten free options. We do our best to accomidate allergies and reduce cross-contamination, but remind our clients that things gluten and nuts are present in the shop. So keep that in mind when ordering for guests with allergies.
How long have you been in business?
We’ve been in business since 2012 and decorating cakes since 2006. The brick and mortar was established in 2019.
Are you a licensed business?
Yes.
Are you professionally trained or self-taught?
I’m self-taught, and I’ve been baking and decorating since 2006.
What are your specialties?
I’m a wiz at smoothing a beautiful buttercream cake and crafting handmade buttercream flowers. I love incorporating my skills as an oil painter, and creating 2D characters.
Do you create your own custom designs?
Yes! In fact, I encourage it! Caking outside the box isn’t just my tagline. I want all our customers to personalize their cakes to make them their own.
How far do you deliver, and what do you charge for delivery?
We’ve traveled as far as 250 miles for a cake. Though we don’t recommend it, it can be done. Our delivery fees are based on mileage and factor in things like cake size and time spent setting up.
Do you cover your cakes with fondant or buttercream?
We prefer to cover cakes in buttercream; however, we often use fondant as a decorative element.
Do you have price minimum?
We have a $175 minimum with custom cake orders for any occassion. Things like decorated sugar cookies also have a 3 dozen minimum.
Do I have to put money down to save the date?
Of all weddings and large parties, we require a save the date deposit of $100. This fee goes toward your large order and is non-refundable.
How many payments are there? When are they due?
For all large orders and wedding cakes, your payments are split into two payments. Half of your payment is due one month prior to your date (this includes your $100 date reservation) and is non-refundable. The second payment is due two weeks before delivery. For small orders, payments can be made via cash, check or card on the day of delivery.
What is your policy of cancellations?
For parties that require date reservation, a 50% deposit is required and due one month prior to the date and is non-refundable. If you cancel or reschedule before the one month, you will forfeit your $100 date reservation payment. You’ll have up to 12 months to reschedule your party and retain the rest of your 50% deposit.
How many wedding cakes do you book in a year?
It’s been growing every year, but we’ve booked as many as 35-40 weddings in a single year, and even more birthdays, showers, and other events.
How do you price your cakes?
We price cakes by the serving. We do offer free estimates and often can give you 3 different ways we could approach your design and budget.
Do you offer taste testings?
Yes! We offer a full consultation for 4 people for $50. For more information, check out the Weddings page!
Who cuts the cake?
If we’re available, we’re happy to cut and serve your cake! We do charge a $100 fee for local weddings. Non-local starts at $150+. We’re always happy to educate your cake cutters on how to properly cut and serve your large cake.
How do you recommend saving the top tier of your wedding cake?
We never encourage saving the cake for a year, but if you do, wrap it up throughly and store it in a deep freezer. Personally, we love saving the cake for the first fight.
